How to prepare for college essay writing assignments

In college, theoretical assignments that are given to students are either article based or essay based.

The essay writing or article writing of college-level are little different than the one done in junior or high school.

Although the concepts of the essay writing remain the same, the quality of content differs in school and college. Essay writing can be tough for some students.

In this article we will explore the type of essays that are expected by the college authority, we will also provide some tips and tricks that the students can use to improve the quality of their essay, even if they are writing essays for scholarship purposes or for essay competition.

  1.  Word limit

Whenever students are asked to write an essay, they are mostly given the title of the essay or the topic that the essay should be related to.

In school level essay writing, there’s no constraint to the word limit or the particular format of the essay.

But when in college, students are supposed to write their essays, keeping in mind the word limit provided by the teachers and mentors.

Most often the minimum word limit is given to the students that they are supposed to follow, they can write as much as they want when only the minimum word limit is mentioned to them.

Many times teachers mention that their essay needs to consist of certain pages, in that case, the word limit is difficult to identify.

Students when writing points for essays should keep in mind the word limit or page count, so when they are actually writing the essay they are not left with too much or too little information.

  1.  Format of the essay

The basic format of the essay is a title, introduction, main body, and conclusion in the same order.

When in school students can submit their essay assignments on any paper or journal, there’s no particular page format given to them.

Paper writing services can be beneficial for providing best quality essay help.

But when students are writing essays for college or even for scholarship essays, students are supposed to follow certain page formats.

Most college students are supposed to write an essay on a doc file or pdf file that is the digital platform.

The basic format that the students can follow while writing a college essay on a digital platform is, is font size 12, font name Times New Roman, line spacing 1.5 or 1.

This is the basic format that the students can use.

Other than this, students can also use features like bold, italics, and underline to mark the title of the page or to highlight certain points that the students feel the reader should pay more attention to when writing an essay on digital platform students have too many options to change font size, font style, etc.

students can even add bulletin points in their essay to make it easier to read for the teacher.

  1.  Collecting information

Students often collect information with a quick google search due to which their plagiarism is caught, which eventually leaves a bad impression on the teacher.

At the school level collecting information from any site, like Wikipedia is also accepted by teachers, but when students are writing essays at the college level, they need to make their essays more authentic, to do this, students need to upgrade their methods of collecting information.

Instead of collecting information and content from any sites available on the internet, students should select information only from the sites that are valid and have a reputation.

For example, say a student has to write an essay on a topic that is related to medical, in this student should avoid selecting information that is available on top of the search instead student should collect information from a well-reputed medical website like WHO or Healthline, etc.

Students when collecting certain information should always check the publishing date of the article or the blog, as chances are, they might be reading an old article, whose reference in the current situation is invalid, following this tip students can actually sharpen their methods for collecting information.

  1. Personal touch

When essay writing is done in school, students are often asked to concentrate or focus only on the actual facts related to their topics.

But when the same topic is given to a student at the college level, students can improve their writing game by adding a personal touch to their essays.

By personal touch, what is meant here is, that students should add their own observations or knowledge about the topic, depending upon the topic student can even give example related to their own life or the student can give example from someone else’s lives also.

By giving a personal touch to the essay, the student catches the curiosity and attention of the reader, very easily, and even if the topics are very simple and common, adding a personal touch to them can actually make the essay more interesting to read.

  1. Quality check

After writing any essay, students should make it their habit to read the essay.

This works for both school students and college students.

By keeping the practice of reading and re-reading essay, students will be surprised to find so many silly errors in their writing.

Re-reading helps students to correct their mistakes, they can check spelling errors and grammatical mistakes.

They can even add or delete some portion of the writing that they feel is right or wrong.

Students can also add highlights after reading the essay.
